How to Upgrade Asus Router Firmware?

 



Asus frequently releases new firmware updates. This is done to add new features to your routers to make Asus routers the best routers in the world. New updates include new security mechanisms not present in the previous firmware version. It improves signal quality and provides the strongest signal, the best performance and the highest security. Connection information may vary depending on the router. Before updating the router firmware, find the IP address of the device you want to access. Steps for Firmware updating: -

•Download the latest / updated firmware version from the Asus router site router.asus.com, if any update is available, else no need to update the Firmware.

•Enter the model number of the Asus router and download the latest version of the firmware file to update the Asus router.

•The downloaded firmware file will be securely saved to your computer for future updates.

•Log in to Asus Router to access the Asus Router web interface.

•Open the web browser page for the connected device.

•Visit router.asus.com to log in to the Asus router to access the web interface.

•If router.asus.com does not work now, go to the IP address of the Asus router, i.e. http://192.168.1.1

•192.168.1.1 OR router.asus.com refers to the router login page on the screen.

•Use standard Asus router credentials: password and username to log in to the router's web interface.

The default username and password to login to the Asus router are admin.

•Press the login button. It will Opens the web interface of the Asus router.

•Go to the "Administration" tab.

•Select the "Firmware Update" option from the tab.

•Check for updates on the Asus router graphical web interface to upload the downloaded firmware file.

•Download and run the latest firmware update on your computer, then download the firmware.

•Asus Router will restart automatically upon completion of the Firmware update process. Let it reboot. 

•Now, you are required to re-configure the settings of your router according to your need.

Manually updating Asus Router Firmware:-

Before you begin Manual update process, user is required to check the IP address of the router from the Setup page.  First, access your Router’s Setup page.  And go to the Menu >> Network Administration > IP Details >> IP Address to know your IP address.

Then follow the instructions below to manually update your router’s firmware.

 Steps to update firmware manually:-

1.Download the firmware file to your computer.

2.Log in to the Asus router’s web interface using routerasuscom or 192.168.1.1.

3.Find and click on the link in the lower right corner of the screen for manual update to start.

4.Click on the Connectivity option under the Router Settings tab.

5.Click on Select File on the Basic tab.

6.Select the downloaded firmware file and click the Start update button.

7.Click the Yes button and wait for the update process to complete. Note that it should not be interrupted during the update process.

8.Click OK in the Restart Router window to restart the router settings so that they can be saved.

9.After rebooting, your router will start with factory default settings. And hence, you can now manually update your Wi-Fi router’s firmware.

RESET the Router:-

Keep in mind that the firmware update process may sometimes fail. If it fails, restart the router. To do this, login to the router and go to the "Factory reset" section. Click Reset/Reboot to reset the router. If you can't do this, you can also reset by pressing the reset button on the router.

This button is usually located on the back of the router and has a reset label under it. Hold the Reset button for at least 10 seconds until the Router LED’s start blinking. When LED’s stop blinking this indicates that reset process is done now. After resetting the router, reconfigure the network and wireless settings of your router.

Please note that some routers can perform firmware updates automatically, so you don’t need to download or install updates manually.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You should not interrupt the firmware update procedure as it is going to disrupt router functioning and corrupt the firmware file. Do not turn off router, modem or PC while the update process is running.
